International Food Cook-Off

On July 31, 2009 the African Community Center hosted our first ever International Food Cook-Off. Over 20 international dishes were prepared by individuals from the community, with over 80 people tasting and voting on their favorites. The Jarjies family, who recently moved to Grand Rapids from Iraq, swept the tasters’ tongues by claiming both the Peoples’ Choice first place and the Judges’ Award first place with their tasty dolma recipe. The dolma consisted of green peppers stuffed with a garlic tomato rice, eggplant, onion and squash, covered in a black pepper lemonade. We send out appreciation to all attendees, volunteers, and chefs for making this event a success.

The event was part of the ACC’s summer fund raising initiative, to assist us in our programs’ sustainability.
